Anonymous asked: can you give me some advice on how to be successful in the music industry? I don't necessarily even mean just playing music. how do you manage to make real connections and immerse yourself in it?
All I can tell you is be honest. I’ve been dicked around and fucked over and told this and that and misled and mocked and put on a pedestal and hated on and suppressed and everything else imaginable by labels, PR fucks, management companies, booking agencies and the like.
And every bit of that negativity came about because I was honest with them and they were not honest with me, but what has being honest brought me?
I’ve found a lot of people who listen to my music and support me regardless of not having a label or distribution of album cycles or PR campaigns or any of that phony shit that keeps people from hearing the art and sharing the art with their friends.
you make connections by being a real person to other real people, you get immersed in it because it’s your life and it drives you to be here on earth constantly inside your WORK. It’s all work and it’s a goddamn blessing to be able to WORK.
The “industry” is dead, we’ve been parading it’s corpse around for so long there isn’t even much left of it and the illusion is wearing off. Forget the industry. Make art, share it with the world and understand that hard work is good for the soul.
hope that helps.
