That song was actually a cover of a song by a band called “Free Jazz Band”, which is now called Company.
I know it upset that band a lot that I covered it, but they had rejected a ton of their songs that were in my opinion. perfect pop songs and I felt the world deserved to hear their words.
I’ve always felt that the song is a very literal warning of the end of the world. I think Brian (Who wrote the song) was probably feeling apocalyptic in the aftermath of September 11th.
Regardless of it’s topical origins it remains to me a very honest, spiritual song.
Oh and the Free Jazz Band version is way better.
